Najmniejszym państwem świata jest Watykan (enklawa w Rzymie). Jest on siedzibą władz
Kościoła Katolickiego – rezyduje tam papież. Watykan ma jedynie 0,44 km² powierzchni.

The smallest country in the world is the Vatican (an enclave in Rome). It is the seat of the
Catholic Church - the Pope resides there. The Vatican has only 0.44 km ².

Najkrótsza nazwa miejscowości
Najkrótsza nazwa miejscowości składa się tylko z jednej litery „Å”. Nazywa się tak aż
kilkanaście wsi w Szwecji i Norwegii. W tłumaczeniu oznacza ona „potok” lub „mała rzeka”.
Shortest name of locality
Shortest name of locality consists of only one letter „Å”. It is called so until several villages
in Sweden and Norway. Translated it means „torrent” or „small river”.

Jedno z wzgórz leżące na terenie Nowej Zelandii nazywa się „Taumatawhakatangihangak

powszechnie akceptowana. Znajduje się również w „Księdze Rekordów Guinnessa”.
Very long geographical name
One of the hills lying in New Zealand called „Taumatawhakatangihangak
oauauotamateaturipukaka pikimaungahoronukupokaiwhe kitanatahu nua”. The name is
widely accepted. There is also the „Guinness Book of Records.”

Morze Sargassowe jest z każdej strony otoczone przez Ocean Atlantycki. Morze to zostało
wydzielone z powodu nietypowych prądów. Obejmują one ruchem kolistym obszar Morza

Poziom morza jest w pewnym sensie pojęciem abstrakcyjnym. Morza i oceany nie mają
jednakowego poziomu, np. poziom wody na zachodnim Pacyfiku jest o pół metra wyższy
niż na jego wschodnich krańcach. Głównymi czynnikami powodującymi te różnice są siła
Coriolisa, prądy morskie oraz wiatry.
Sea level - an abstract concept?
The sea level is in some sense abstract concept. The seas and oceans are not the same level,
such as the level of water in the western Pacific is about half a meter higher than its eastern
part. The main factors causing these differences is the Coriolis force, ocean currents and
winds.
Dlaczego węgiel jest w Polsce?
Węgiel powstawał jedynie w ciepłym klimacie okołorównikowym. Skąd więc wziął się w
Polsce? Wszystko to dzięki wędrówce płyt tektonicznych. W karbonie (kiedy powstawały
największe pokłady "czarnego złota") obszary Polski znajdowały się właśnie w okolicach
równika.

All this thanks to the journey of tectonic plates. In the Carboniferous (when formed the
largest deposits of "black gold") Polish areas were just in the vicinity of the equator.

Mount Everest (8848 m n.p.m.) nie zawsze jest uznawany z najwyższą górę świata. Według
niektórych najwyższym szczytem na Ziemi jest Chimborazo (6267 m n.p.m.), a dokładniej
szczytem najbardziej odległym od środka Ziemi - wynika to z położenia masywu w pobliżu
równika (ruch obrotowy Ziemi sprawia, że średnica równika jest o ok 42 km większa niż
średnica pomiędzy biegunami). Z kolei jeszcze inni naukowcy twierdzą, że najwyższym
szczytem jest Mauna Kea na Hawajach (4207 m n.p.m.), ponieważ kolejne 10203 m masywu
zatopione jest pod powierzchnią Pacyfiku.

above sea level), and more specifically the peak farthest from the center of the earth - this is
due to the position of the massif near the equator (the Earth's rotation makes the diameter

Prędkość wirowania naszej planety spada, a doba się wydłuża (o około 3 sekundy w ciągu
200000 lat). Różnica ta jest dostrzegalna praktycznie wyłącznie na zegarach atomowych. W
zamierzchłych czasach dinozaurów cykl dobowy trwał około 23 godzin, do dnia dzisiejszego
wydłużył się do 24 godzin, za kolejne miliony czy miliardy lat może wydłużyć się jeszcze
bardziej.
